Reaper: The Devil Meets the Slacker

Did you catch Reaper? What did you think? You already know our opinion from our preview -- we thought it was a blast! There was nothing terribly different from the pilot we saw, just Missy Peregrym swapped out for Nikki Reed. At the moment, Andi has so little to do that it hardly matters. Hopefully she’ll have more of a purpose in later episodes.

But the real question is, what did you think? Vote in our polls, and leave your deep thoughts in the comments!

I enjoy watching Reaper, it's a hell of a lot better than most shows on today (ex. reality shows or the multitude of dramas. I enjoy it just as much as I enjoy Supernatural. It's nice to sit back and laugh with this show.

Re REAPER, Premier 9/27:

I'm shocked by the cruelty & gore of this prime-time show, which is not only nauseating but shown early primetime so young children will be watching.

A little dog barks & jumps outside a car & the guy inside says "Watch this!" and suddenly opens the door, slamming the dog full force. He thinks that's cool. In reality the dog would be thrown and have broken bones or internal injuries. In the show there's hardly any reaction, only a fast look of horror on the other guy's face, and the show continues as if nothing happened. It's treated as an adolescent joke, no big deal.

I couldn't believe it. Is this supposed to be entertaining? To WHO - Nazis? "Sock" is unbelievably cruel and stupid and he thinks he's funny. He later on terrifies a pack of dogs with a leaf blower, enjoying himself and screaming "Bitches!". Fortunately the scene changed before we saw the dogs get hurt.

Later on there's a dead man throwing flames, and a scene where the devil has a guy crushed under an ice-rink cleaning machine. A pool of blood appears on the ice and the machine drags a huge line of blood thru the ice.

The show is nauseating. Cruel, frightening and disturbing things happen and the characters hardly react.

How are we supposed to teach kids to be compassionate when cruelty is treated as a joke, and death and fear are considered entertainment? Shows like this make me desperate about the character development of the generation growing up watching TV now. Obviously its writers and producers are morally bankrupt and CW11 has no ability to make judgments either.

I implore CW11 to CANCEL this horrible show immediately!

Not a fan. I like Supernatural too much to enjoy a show that camps up the idea of demons and evil.

I found the characters too cliche and annoying. Andi and Sam - not feeling it. I was thought it would be funnier. It wasn't.

Also - the guy's name is Sam this bugs me so much.

Okay people, after a hard days work, I don't want to come home and see that some kid got shot, some elderly person was mugged, or shows that rely on sex to sell it to anyone who will tune-in. Reaper is funny because they play it straight much like the guys in Supernatural. I just want to relax, laugh and feel good after I watch a show. Reaper isn't meant to be high drama or overly serious.
It's not reality, it's just a show.

OMG a swear word on TV!!

So what's new?

Omg just saw Reaper (tivo)it was so funny my husband and I will watch agin.
Sam said dick on tv cool

Because of all the buzz Reaper has been receiving in the media and the people who has positive comments after viewing the pilot/clips of Reaper, I decided to tune in last night. Sorry to say, my initial instinct was dead on. The program is quite juvenile and not suited to my tastes in TV.

Okay, so Reaper really wasn't like Supernatural at all (although the whole "Hi, I'm Sam and I have psychic powers" thing still bothers me a little). *Mumbles apology for overreacting* HOWEVER. I still didn't absolutely love it.

The characters were cute. I loved Sock and the very interesting, very different portrayal of the Devil. The show also had some genuinely funny moments. I especially thought it was hilarious that the portal to hell is the DMV. However, I thought that it moved kind of slowly the first half hour or so.

Overall, I thought it was a cute show that will end up with a good-sized fanbase. I probably will end up watching it again, but if I miss an episode, it won't be the end of the world.

I didn't mind it, but I still don't know if they'll be able to keep it going to the point of overally interesting.

The characters for me were alright, although Sock did border on annoying at times. And the whole being in love with the girl wasn't working for me, because I didn't really see any chemistry there. Although i'm not sure why.

All in all, I will tune in again a few more times, just to see where it goes.

On a last note though, I still wished they would have picked another name besides Sam.

"Did you catch Reaper? What did you think?"

The word 'dreadful' comes to mind.
Fifteen minutes into the program I changed the channel, then decided it may get better, so switched back to the CW. I tried to get through the whole episode...really...but...35 minutes was more than enough for me.

Even though I like Ray Wise, the Devil was too chipper. Quite a disappointing evil specimen. After all Devil= D+Evil.

The remaining characters were all flat, uninteresting. Sam was more depressed than slackerish. I enjoyed Bret more on Grounded For Life. Andi: Dull as mud. The actress has no depth and her delivery is lacking. Sock, yes, the supposed comedic sidekick, unfortunately this character came off as terribly annoying. His lines seemed forced, as if he was trying too hard to be funny therefore it backfired.

The chemistry between actors wasn't strong. The dialogue didn't flow well. For me Reaper was a mess.

Definitely will not be tuning in again.
