Gossip Girl: Land of Confusion

Mixed messages and crossed signals abound on this week’s episode of Gossip Girl. If these crazy kids and their hair-brained parents would just talk to each other and communicate properly, maybe a whole lot of confusion could be avoided. Then again, we wouldn’t have a compelling show without the numerous train wrecks.

Serena defied her mother and ran off to Spain with Poppy and her boyfriend (does his baritone voice bother anyone else?). At some point on this whirlwind trip, Poppy jumped ship and headed back to New York, leaving Serena and Gabriel alone to let nature take its course. Like a bad Las Vegas hangover, Serena woke up with the realization that she may have tied the knot the night previous in an impromptu church raid. She immediately got the next flight home to hopefully erase this case of bad judgment -- what else would one do when they find out they may be legally bound to another?

Blair, still in the throes of disappointment over her banishment from Yale, is trying to break into the socialite scene without much success until Nate’s manipulating grandfather basically tells her the world of the elite and famous is her oyster if only she’ll convince Nate to attend Yale instead of Columbia. Wanting to distance himself from his influential family, Nate applied to the New York-based university just to see if he could get in without his grandfather’s money bags. Desperate to make inroads into the upper echelons of society, Blair agrees. Seriously, what else is she to do -- actually take up Cyrus’ sweet offer to call in a favor and squeeze her in on the incoming freshman list at NYU? Puh-leeze! Not in Blair’s world.

Dan needs tuition money for his own Yale adventure and for some reason the cash-strapped Rufus won’t let the kid get a job. Who doesn’t have a job in high school? Rephrase that. What non-trust fund baby doesn’t have a job in high school? Dan defies the old man and hooks up with a catering company, which just so happens to send Dan to Blair’s house on his first gig.

It’s Passover time at the Waldorf house and there’s no better event to air dirty laundry at than a Seder. Serena attends to get lawyerly advice from Cyrus on a possible annulment and must pretend Dan’s her main squeeze when Gabriel actually shows up to claim his bride. Rufus and Lily are dumbfounded by Dan’s eerie resemblance to a waiter and can’t fathom another Dan and Serena tryst. The dinner table is rife with confusion -- most notably in the eyes of Cyrus’ elderly mother, who doesn’t quite understand why all this drama unfolds during this sacred tradition.

Meanwhile, Nate surprises everyone, including Blair, at his cousin’s wedding when he announces he knows that his grandfather was behind his own father’s incarceration. Blair has a change of heart and stands behind Nate’s decision to cut himself off from his family. Everything’s peachy until Mr. Vanderbilt explains his rationale for tipping off the Feds and reveals Blair’s ulterior motives.

Slowly, these balls of confusion untangle. Nate and Blair reunite and she may call herself an NYU student yet. Rufus reveals he may sell the gallery to help pay for Dan’s tuition. Serena discovers she completely overreacted and she may not be a wife after all since Gabriel isn’t quite sure he commandeered a priest or a gardener to oversee their vows.

But what is a Gossip Girl episode without a killer final scene? Just as Serena leaves a sappy message on Gabriel’s phone about their budding relationship, we see the lothario back at Poppy’s digs. Gasp!

What did you think? Poor Chuck -- he’s so sad and pathetic these days. Are you on Team Chuck or Team Nate? Call us a sucker for the bad boys, but our t-shirt would spell Chuck’s name.

I was hoping they J and N would run into each other. I really liked them together.

The J and C scenes were the best for real.

I don't like Gabriel, that whole thing got to me.

That scene with Chuck and Georgina looks like it's going to be funny.

Team Chuck all the way! He gets Blair and he loves her for who she is, it's apparent from last nights episode Nate never will. I think the line that made this really obvious was when he was talking to Nate and said," It's stupid for you to want her to be anything other than she is." He loves her and it was really great to hear that from him last night.

As far as I'm concerned, Nate can jump in a river and drown. I have no use what-so-ever for that character.

OMFG I can't believe you guys didn't touch on the amazingly epic Jenny/Chuck scenes?!? They were the best part of the episode. Wow.

Felicia- Totally had the same thought about the NJ thing. I would have been cool to show them running into each other.

Team Chuck all the way! So glad Chuck and Blair will be back next week. It's about time.

TEAM CHUCK ALWAYS!!!

TEAM CB ALWAYS!!

TEAM Chuck! Duh
Anyway, I think Gabriel and Poppy are playing Serena into thinking they aren't married, when they actually are in Spain! These are mean people
Plus, i want nate and jenny together and blair and nate together! too bad nate and jenny didn't run into each other!!

TEAM CHUCK! Not only because he is superior to Nate in every way but for Blair's sake. In last night's episode she was awful. When she's with Nate she comes off as strait up pathetic.

Team Chuck!!!!

TEAM CHUCK FTMFW! <3

i'm just disappointed you didn't touch on the jenny/chuck scenes!
they were my favorite part of the entire damn episode!

and maybe i'm just a sucker for the jenny/nate-ness, but did anyone else think that when jenny went off on her walk and nate said he needed some fresh air, they might run into each other?

sigh. a girl can only dream.

i suppose i'm on team chuck, because i hate blair with nate, but i don't like her with chuck, either.

the whole ridiculous poppy/serena/gabriel thing just needs to be DONE. it's so ridiculous.

the only thing i'm excited for next week is georgina coming back. :)
