America's Next Top Model: Your Modeling Career Will Be Short If You Don't Measure Up

Episode two of America's Next Top Model started off with a serious bang! The girls are shipped off to Wilhelmina Models where they meet the dashing Nigel Barker who introduced them to the president of Wilhemina, Sean Patterson, who met with each and every one of them. They were all evaluated and not only did someone not win (as we all figured would be the deal) someone lost. And she lost big. When Nigel and Sean were interviewing the girls they noticed that there was someone in the group who just really didn't have what it takes. So rather than announcing a winner, they announced a loser who would have to leave the competition...immediately. She may have Bambi eyes but she didn't show the boys any personality so Rachel was asked to leave. Does anyone need a reminder that the industry that these girls are attempting to break into is a very harsh industry?

Super Smeyes?
After talking about smiling with your eyes for so many cycles, Tyra is finally giving an actual smiling-with-your-eyes lesson. It's got a name -- "smeyes" -- and now the girls had a competition -- a smeyes-off, with the models going bizarrely-covered head-the-head. The winning girls get a dinner at Tyra's favorite restaurant, The Bazaar, where they will dine and get some serious one-on-one time with Sean Patterson from Wilheminia. The losers get to do the dishes at Tyra's favorite restaurant.

There's lots more after the jump!

They're off and running
For the photo shoot the girls head to Santa Anita Park, where the legend of Seabiscuit, the short horse who was the long shot, was born. They get to model with a horse, a jockey, long extensions, and no top. The nakedness wasn't an issue at all, but other issues abounded.

Several girls couldn't smeyes to save their lives, but when it came down to the bottom two, it wasn't so much a case of not smiling with the eyes, it was a case of self-sabotage. Bianca and Courtney were both frustrated at the shoot and it showed in their final pictures. But even though she was one of the bottom two for the second week running, Bianca got to stay. The adorable Courtney finally let her broken foot get to her and she limped off stage for good. Curses!

High, or should we say, lowlights

The eyes have it
Jennifer lost the full range of motion in her left eye and for some reason, she thinks that no one is going to notice that. But of course, five minutes at Wilhelmina and the boys noticed it. Well, everyone noticed it. Frankly, we didn't see it and we're super freaky about eyes AND teeth. Don't get us started! So she must be doing something right.

And the miss non-congeniality award goes to…
Okay -- no one likes Bianca. She's made zero friends at the photo shoots and now she's picking fights with the girls at the house. She puts dirty dishes in a steaming dishwasher, points out imperceptible schmutz on the clean dishes, and seems happy to bitch about everything. It's uncomfortable, to say the least.

Most cringe-worthy moment
How uncomfortable was it when Rachel walked into Wilheminia, announcing that she does musical theater, but she couldn't come up with one...single...lyric? She probably wanted to sink into the floor, and so did we. Then she followed up what catastrophe with a horrible runway walk and we just had to take a potty break.

Great quotes—modeliciousness

  • "Going from Walmart cashier to America's Next Top Model, that's definitely a big jump." Rachel
  • "I felt like she flatlined, I felt like there wasn't a lot there and she felt a little bit boring." Sean Patterson, president of Wilhemina, on Rachel when he releases her from the competition.
  • "I just like nudity." Laura
  • "Smeyes, boo." Tyra to Miss J whey he tries his hand at smeyesing

The harsh online critics speak
We’ve been scanning the Internet, looking for news to share with you about Cycle 13 and while the whole season is being kept pretty tightly under wraps, one thing we continue to see over and over again from viewer feedback is that this season is being filmed for nothing because even if the models are big on talent, they are short in stature. According to Jess1 in a recent comment on E! Online, "These girls can only get as far as this competition because when they get to the real fashion world, the designers won't even look at them because they are too short. Tyra is just setting them up for failure."

Ouch! Can that be true? These girls do look pretty but what if we stood them up next to other models who would tower over them? Will they just look silly? Is Tyra just doing this as a stunt and not to launch a nice, petite girl’s dream modeling career? Tell us here in OUR feedback!

Anyone else notice that none of these girls wear heels to judging? Isn't it Tyra's rule to make yourself look taller? During regular seasons she gets on to the girls for not wearing heels.

i think all the girls in this cycle--even though they are short--look AMAZING...it seems like all of them really know what they are doing and i think they'll make it far--esp. the taller of the bunch who are 5'7"... maybe they won't be the most successful models but they'll def. book jobs and make some mula...Britney, Rae, and Erin are esp. FIERCE!!!! i really don't understand why they always let the bitchy girl stay!!! it is just so ridiculous!! she is ugly and mean! sorry but she can't take a photo and its obvious with this horse photo! she looks like a photoshopped dike...whoops anyway, i really like britney's picture...it was very good!! and rae last week was just phenom!!

no beautiful life recap?

Well, obviously this is just a stunt. Maybe the winner will have some sort of career in the real fashion world but all the other girls will pretty much fail.
