Gossip Girl: Twist the Knife

In the Gossip Girl world, everything can be achieved with a payoff. Between acquiring fake liquor licenses to Lily bribing trick-or-treaters just to make Rufus happy, it seems nothing gets done without greasing the wheel just a little. Chuck and Blair flirted with a true relationship rupture while Blair and Serena might have severed ties for real. We love Blair, but the I-get-whatever-I-want-and-there's-nothing-you-can-do-about-it attitude is finally wearing thin. And no one made us want to throw our Chinese take-out at the television screen more than Jenny. Eric better give her the cold shoulder for a seriously long time. You can rule with an iron fist or you can take on the role of the "People's Princess." Take a guess as to who the general population loved more. Here are some other tidbits from last night's episode that we enjoyed:

Best pumpkins: Rufus knows how to do Halloween right. We loved his KISS-themed pumpkins.

Best costume: Rufus wins again as Johnny (or was it DeeDee?) Ramone.

Best job: Despite the grunt work, Serena's job seems like a dream. Grunt work for normal people equals taking the office's lunch order and then picking it up. Grunt work for Serena equals delivering James Franco his underwear. Yeah, we'll go with the tighty-whities.

Worst look: Jenny. Maybe it was just her stuck-up personality affecting our opinion, but we wanted to let her know that Halloween is only one day of the year. Wipe that blackish crap from your lips!

Best way to make your club popular: Have your soiree invaded by the police. It injects a little danger into the proceedings and apparently everyone wants to stay at a hotel sans liquor license. Go figure!

Best parental advice: Rufus demanding Lily stay home with him for Halloween. Who does want their parents at every social event of the year?

Cutest welcome-to-the-family moment: We melted when Eric asked Jenny why Rufus was inquiring about his size. "Does this mean I'm getting a flannel?" Oh so adorable!

Biggest eww-factor: Dan watching Olivia get it on with her ex-boyfriend. Granted, it was only a cinematic display of affection, but sometimes too much information is just too much information. And he watched it with Nate. Isn't there some guy-code about this kind of thing?

Biggest imitation of a toddler: Blair. She just can't follow directions. We understand she just can't help herself, but when it comes to Chuck, you'd think she'd show a bit more restraint. Although, it he keeps forgiving her, then she'll never learn.

Phoniest fight: Serena and Nate. Oh just kiss and make up, you two. Was any harm really done, since Carter refused Serena's help?

Most desperate: Serena. She's so eager for a job and a man that she'll just waltz into any situation to acquire both. Note to Serena: there are other PR firms in New York and there are plenty of men too.

What did you think? Are Blair and Jenny grating on your nerves? Is Chuck starting to be a pushover when it comes to Blair? How pissed do you think Serena really is at Blair? What will be Eric's revenge on Jenny?

So all in all an okay episode, No Vanessa (which I might point out I didn’t even realize she was missing until Dan said something), which is always good. I still don’t understand why it looked like Jenny was wearing a hooker costume for most of the episode, until it came time to wear a costume and she was finally wearing some clothes.
I think Blair and Chuck should always dress from the 1920’s or at least always have Chuck in a hat.
Got to love Nate and Dan watching soft core porn together, and Nate’s great little smirks while Dan is freaking out. And just the general fact that Nate reads ‘Endless Knights’ blogs. Funny this is probably the best we have seen of Nate since season one.
There is no way to describe how annoying Jenny is right now. She is the queen, she should make the rules. I think it needs to be said that she will never live up to Queen B. I say Eric and Jonathan dethrone her and share the quenndom, they are both queen-tastick
Did anyone else find the Chuck and Blair drama forced. It was like the writers were trying to please the people who want them to fight and those who like them all lovely dovey at the same time. Personally I would have preferred a big blow out ant then a hot make up rather then the ‘we’re fighting’, ‘no we’re not’, ‘Yes we are.’ Are we never going to see them have sex again!
Eric was gold this episode, when he came home after being yogurt’ed and his mother asked him what was wrong, not only did he look hot (and have good hair for the first time in …well…ever) he managed to keep a straight face seeing Rufus in that costume. It is time fans demand more Eric, or he should get his own spinoff.
My second favorite underused character got some great screen time this episode too. Although I do love her when she is scowling and yelling in Polish, it was so adorable to see her giggling while enduring Blair’s gift of ‘foot bothering’ and smiling at ‘Mister Chuck’ as she explained how hard her life is when he and Blair fight.
Before I go into anything about what seems to be the main character of the show now, ‘Serena’s boobs’, I just have to put it out there that if Jenny actually ate her Yogurt instead of tipping it on people the clothes in her closet might actually fit.
Oh that reminds me Props to Lilly for the great parenting skills this episode too;
>Lets make comments about my already too thin step daughter’s clothes not fitting,
> Then lets make the same daughter make her flunkies give a half assed apology to her already sensitive son.
> Oh and instead of going to support her newly adopted son at his club opening, she stays home to pay little kids to Trick-or-treat from her husband. Oh and can I just ask what time where these kids Trick-or-treating. Most kids are done by 9 why couldn’t they do both?
In general I’m mad at the writer’s for the lack of Lilly/Chuck interaction. She is the only mother he has ever really had and yes she adopted him so she is his mother, not his step mother, yet they have missed so many opportunities for great bonding moments, like a heartfelt talk before Lilly’s wedding (I would have even been happy if Rufus had pulled him aside, for a father son chat). And then it was left up to a bar tender to tell Chuck how proud his father would be of him.
This was one of those episodes where I really had to suspend my disbelief. Not only would you not get a liquor license in one day (no matter how much cash you throw around), they would not give one to an 18 year old (is he even 18 yet?). Then the cops raid the bar and the only punishment is that the club is closed, my guess is there where more underage patrons in there then those of legal drinking age. And even if you can put all this to the back of your mind, I do not for a second believe that Serena wouldn’t want to deliver James Franco’s underpants (If she won’t, I will!).
While we are on the topic of Serena, it seems like Blair already got her revenge by cutting the frount out of ever outfit she owns. It what conceivable business situation (other than hooters) is it okay to go to work dressed like that?

mmm...James Franco

I had a big problem with Jenny this episode. I mean to hurt Eric, the most innocent and loving person on this show- not even Blair could hurt Eric back in season one because she cares about him. Blair didn't bother me because, as flawed as it was- she just wanted to help Chuck. I didn't see Chuck as a push over because he did say he was angry and that they needed to work it out, plus, he held out to truly forgive her when he saw she was sincerely sorry and trying to help him. I actually liked this episode a lot

I think Blair is being Blair but I don't find that Chuck is being too easy on her. He punished her by cutting her out of an important part of his life and with those words about why he wouldn't admit his love last season. If Blair hadn't grown in some way, she never would have stayed away from that party as long as she did. In fact the only reason she went was because she wanted to warn Chuck and sincerely apologize. Chuck was honest at the end that he doesn't fully trust her and frankly I don't think she fully trusts him either. Trust to level they are dealing with has to be earned and I think both are up to the challenge.
