One Tree Hill: Moving On -- Or Not

We finally learn the truth about Nathan and Renee this week -- and about Dan's intentions, Julian's feelings and Clay's level of crazy. So much information!

Biggest Props
To James Lafferty for directing this episode. Go, James!

Biggest Shock
Dan whipping out the lie detector test -- and Renee passing it! Of course, it was all a fake-out -- Dan strapped himself in to machines and told a bunch of LIES! (possibly even including "I love my wife.") All of this was in service of getting Renee to admit the truth -- that she'd never had sexual relations with that man, and that she made it all up. Finally, Naley's nightmare is over. (We still think this could have been avoided with an in-vitro paternity test.)

Biggest Non-Shock
We called it! Sara, Clay's comely companion, was a delusion. She's his dead wife, haunting his memories even as she urges him to move on. As far as we can tell, Clay wasn't at all responsible for her death -- if we had to guess, we'd say she suffered an aneurysm -- but he still is living in its shadow. He even sent Quinn away when she came over to "talk."

There's more -- read on!

Biggest Annoyance
Seriously, do these people even live in the same town anymore? It's a huge, emotional time for Haley and Nathan, and all of their friends are far, far away. Sure, Quinn said something about "giving them their space," but what's everyone else's excuse? Brooke was brooding, Clay was crazy, Skills was distracting Jamie, and Mia, Chase, Mouth, Millie.... they were absent without explanation.

Biggest Whiner
Brooke, sweetie, we love you, but you have got to snap out of this self-pity jag! Julian had no idea you'd proposed marriage in the sand, so you can't hold him responsible for that. And did anyone else just get frustrated when Julian said "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings..." That's something you have to say to kindergartners, not adults!

Biggest Distraction
Flashback city! OK, fine, we got to see what happened in various relationships, but it seemed much more drawn-out than necessary. Short version: Clay was blissfully happy, and then Sara died. Quinn was blissfully happy, and then David grew up and/or lost his soul Nathan and Clay were drunk, and Renee was sleeping with someone else -- presumably someone who didn't have a $20 million contract on the line.

What's your take on the episode? Were you surprised by the outcome? What new problems are going to come their way now that the Tree Hillers have fended off Renee? Talk about it in the comments!

I loved this episode, and am loving Season 7 in general. (Not in the least because James did such a great job directing!)
Loved Clay and Sara's story like most people have been saying, and I feel so bad that they managed to get such great chemistry for Rob with a character who's dead! But now, I really do think he's probably the father of Renee's baby. Although, Renee's so annoying I wish that weren't the case, just so we wouldn't have to see her again, haha.

I don't mind Quinn except when she's whining about her marriage. After her flashbacks, I suppose I could see a bit more of where she was coming from - feeling like David had suddenly put money ahead of everything else, and that's not the kind of life she wanted. But, I still think she could have dealt with it much better. I loved how Dan's comment about how 'we want what we want' and 'we victimise ourselves and it has to stop' correlated to her storyline - maybe *that's* the point of her story. Everyone seems to really hate Quinn and how she feels so sorry for herself and I agree. But, people keep getting angry at Mark in particular or all the creators and say she's a stupid character. Maybe the point is not to say that she's right? Maybe we're *not* supposed to empathise? Or maybe, after the flashback, we're supposed to understand a bit more, but still disagree that running away was not the mature way to handle it?? Not all the storylines or characters in the show are always cut and dry good or bad.

I also loved Dan using his devious side for good - I think after the whole Daunte debacle, he'll never forgo an opportunity to help Nathan ever again. But, I think his scamming the public and the audience (seeing as how he got his heart, judging by that scar) is going to catch up to him and Rachel. Hopefully, if that's what happens, we'll get to see some interaction between those two and the rest of the characters, because they've been very isolated so far.

I generally love Brooke and Julian, but I feel like they didn't need to be in this episode - it broke up the rest of the stories too awkwardly. The three other stories, of Nathan's scandal, Quinn's marriage, and Clay's wife were enough without Brulian.

Next week looks like a fun break from all the drama - can't wait!

I caught the scar on Dan's chest. He's not living on so-called "borrowed time." As for Renee's bed partner, they didn't show Clay, but it's a safe assumption. Seeing them in the flashback and the way Clay is. I'm sure he doesn't realize it though.

I DVR'ed this, and I don't think they showed the guy in the bed at all watching the first time, so I'll have to go back and see if it was Clay. I saw a clip with Mark admitting he cried when he wrote this. I love powerful eps like this, where they show without words, and it almost seems like a camping ep is too trivial after this...but we'll see. Someone said you should watch the older eps, I think you should see the school shooting one at least because it is the most important of the whole series.

Did everyone else miss the surgical scar on dans chest????? and I would really love to see nathan and haley have another baby....and I want a visit from leyton :)

i loved this ep so much! i can't beleive there is any sceptism wat-so-eva!

it was amazing, and graceful and beautiful.

perhaps you guys should whatch more past eps to help you realise that this show is about heart and telling stories that you can relate you in real life. the lines that dan said, crisis, love , friendship.....its all good.

anyway, hope you can remove any double standard and podcast the ep with honesty about its brilliance and significance.

I loved the episodes, especially the lie-detector and the flashbacks! Clay and Sara were so heartbreaking!

I really liked this episode, I thought it was really well acted, directed (Go James!), and written. I loved the Clay and Sarah moments and it was the first time since the naley romance that I got excited about a couple. Too bad Sarah is dead, I love their chemistry! I thought Brooks storyline was okay and personally I liked how she said if it is not for marriage what are they doing in their relationship. I feel a lot of girls go through this in their 20’s. I mean she been wanting a family since high school! I was actually pissed at Julian, if you notice he never said he wanted brook as a wife but that forever was a long time! I love the whole naley storyline and it was wrapped up perfectly with Dan of all people. I loved Bethany’s reaction of relief that it was finally over. Now hopefully they will continue to grow their family, need more naley babies. Quinn I feel could be such a great character but the writers are really making it hard to relate to her. I actually liked seeing the flashbacks and the more playful side of her. I just hope that Clay and Quinn don’t get together right now. Each are to needy and would make the most depressing couple. I would actually like to see Clay with Alex at least she is feisty and would keep Clay on his toes.

Last week, I thought that Clay and Quinn were the new Leyton. But after this week, it's obvious that Clay and Sarah were just like Leyton. Clay and Quinn are a slightly paler version, which makes them the new Brucas. Although, without Sarah in the picture, they might work out.

Finally, after seven weeks, a good episode. I loved the flashbacks. At least, they finally explained the new characters and why they are the way that they are and why they made certain decisions. I always knew that Clay slept around b/c of a woman from his past. I just didn't realize that she died. I forgot that I thought that the woman might not really be there and this past episode really made it seem like she was. I cried when Sarah just collapsed (Aneurysm. I figured). Quinn did leave David because he gave up on his dreams and she thought he wasn't as happy as he was at the beginning of their marriage. She believes that he gave up his dreams to try and make her happy; to give her a more stable life. James Lafferty did a great job directing this episode. Makes me think that Mark is bored with directing the show. Maybe he should turn it over to the cast members. Dan and the lie detector test was the best part and I agree with the "I love my wife" part. Hard to believe! Surprised Rachel didn't question it. Maybe she doesn't really care. I liked that the rest of the characters weren't around; they really drag down the show, except for Mia and her singing. Hey t.t., I've totally thought that Clay is the father, practically from the beginning. But, Clay has a little money. Why wouldn't she go after him for a definite payoff?

I loved everything except for the Quinn parts. Well, I did like David throwing all of her stuff on Clay's lawn. lol

Clay's scenes were sad and I actually enjoyed them.

I loved how Dan did the whole lie-detector thing. I'm still a bit confused about it, but whatever, I loved it.

And I want more Brooke and more Rachel!

Those flashbacks were awful!! The ones of Clay and Sarah were necessary to figure out who she was, but they could have been shorter, and the ones of Quinn and David were just boring and completely unnecessary. I think Quinn is going to be a great character, but first she has to quit being so depressed and depressing all the time. Her lighter moments have been great, though. Especially when she's telling somebody the way things are in that Quinn-esque very frank way of hers! She's spunky. We like spunky!

Finally!! The truth comes our about Renee. That storyline was really annoying me. I would like to see Haley and Nathan add a little one to their family though. I think Jamie need's a sibling. Side note, I love Haley's hair straight!!

Clay needs some therapy! I really didn't get Quinn's reason for leaving her husband...is it because he didn't follow his dreams anymore?!? She never really put it into words--or I totally missed it.
I loved how this episode answered many questions though.
Next week's episode looks funny.

I really liked this episode, thought it was the best of the season by far. I am so, so sick of Naley relationship problems; I hope they can get separate story lines finally, and do something interesting. Dan and Rachel are so much more interesting than any of the original cast; at this point, I'm interested in them and the newcomers much more than the old timers.

I loved the Clay flashbacks. And I really liked Sarah, too. Such a shame to see her go.
The Quinn flashbacks proved nothing, but then again there was nothing to prove maybe? Pointless.
I could have done with some Naley flashback, or some Brooke/Julian flashbacks.

And I 100% agree about Brooke and Julian having nothing to do with anything. Nothing happened with them! Never did I doubt that Julian wanted to marry Brooke eventually, despite anything that has happened or has been said.

It was one of those episodes. The good was really good, but the bad was pretty bad.

Next week looks like we are getting all sorts of interaction, perhaps making up for the past few weeks of solitary confinement.

u guys missed the biggest shock of the night!
that clay is the baby daddy!

Quinn bores me.
