One Tree Hill Goes Noir -- And It's Amazing!

Mde. Of. Awesome.
Kudos to Chad Michael Murray -- last night's Chad-penned noir episode of One Tree Hill completely rocked! Excuse us while we fluff our curls, smooth our satin dresses, and transport ourselves back to the '40s to relive Lucas's dream...

Lucas falls asleep after a quick check-in conversation with Peyton, and since he's watching Casablanca, he drifts off to a '40's-style version of Karen's Cafe, complete with Nathan the bartender, Haley the singer, Mouth the gossip columnist, Skills the piano player, Peyton the tragic heroine, and Brooke the damsel in distress. And then there's Dan, who's the embodiment of evil, complete with a mustache!

We find out that Haley used to work for Dan's bar down the street, but she's much happier working at Karen's (which Lucas now owns). In the dressing room, Dan threatens Haley and tells her to come back and work for him... and then he kisses her while she's yelling at him! She slaps him. Of course, he enjoys it.

One Tree Hill Podcast: "Even Fairy Tale Characters Would Be Jealous"

Listen Now

It's all about the music this week on One Tree Hill, and we're rocking out with the rest of you. We're thrilled Haley got a chance to sing again, but we wonder why Nathan couldn't attend -- and why Haley only got to sing one song! And speaking of Nathan, he's visited by the ghost of Q, who's back in fine trash-talking, button-pushing form. Is that what Nathan really needs?

Hello, Cleveland!

Meanwhile, Lucas is busy telling Peyton that he's fine, just fine! with the Julian revelation, but the fact that he went over to Julian's place and punched him out makes us doubt that. Brooke and Sam seem to be getting along better -- Sam makes waffles! -- but their relationship is thrown into turmoil when Brooke gets a call from the adoption agency saying they've got an adorable baby if she wants it. Will Sam get kicked out? (Please?)

That's not all -- Mia's back (their Mia -- our Mia never left), and she's reminding us how it felt to have a likable younger character on the show. Millie catches Gigi in Mouth's bed -- but it's not what she thinks. We don't care -- Gigi has to go!

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Listen in as we debate the merits of Sam vs. Mia, Sam vs. an infant, and Sam vs. no one at all. Hear what had Jackie seriously pissed off, what made Mia start shouting amen, and what I thought about Gigi's strange look after Millie confronted her. Plus, we beg for your help -- come on, put us out of our misery and explain what the heck the title means!

One Tree Hill: USO Show!

Peyton entertains the troops
We loved some parts of this episode (Haley singing, the return of Q), but we're not so sure about others (uber-jealous Millie, Nathan missing his wife's concert!). Let's recap the latest One Tree Hill episode, which brought music, basketball and drama seamlessly together as only OTH can...

Haley wakes up with a start after a nightmare -- she dreamt that she was about to perform at the USO show, but she forgot all her lyrics. She tells Nathan about the dream, but he convinces her she'll be great. However, he won't be at the concert -- doctor's orders! He's supposed to stay home and rest.

Brooke wakes up to a more pleasant morning. Sam has cooked her breakfast! Their relationship seems to be going great, but just as Brooke digs into her waffles, she gets a voicemail about a new baby that needs a home.

Peyton and Lucas are dealing with the aftermath of her Julian confession. Lucas keeps saying everything's okay, but he promptly shows up at Julian's door and punches him!

Exclusive! OTH's Mark Schwahn and Ashley Rickards on Sam

Love her or hate her, you've got to admit that foster kid Samantha has really shaken things up on One Tree Hill. We met her as a shoplifter, and since then have seen her make some seriously boneheaded decisions (taking Jamie to the party where her friends trashed Brooke's store?). But Haley and Jamie think she can be redeemed, and Brooke is testing out motherhood with this troubled kid.

Our own Jason C. sat down with series creator Mark Schwahn to find out where the idea for Sam came from, and what he expects her to bring to the established characters. Plus, listen for the shout-out/slam that mark has for Jason -- we're reasonably sure he's kidding!

Then, Jason talked to Ashley Rickards, and found out that she's a lot different from her character. Ashley talks about her high school career, what she does for fun in Wilmington, and what's next on her plate. Check it out!

One Tree Hill Podcast: "Sympathy for the Devil"

Listen Now

Fight! Fight! Fight! One Tree Hill has the three of us throwing down this week -- we can't seem to agree on anything! (Well, there's one thing... but we'll get to that.) We don't know if it's something in the water, but our shiny, happy, agreeable days are done!

Brooke admires Owen, a modern-day renaissance man

Lucas turns in a great screenplay, but it's missing one thing-- the Keith murder scene. He's tormented by the thought of writing Dan-- what was his motivation? Does he have a soul? Say it with us, Lucas -- he's just eeeeeeevil! Meanwhile, Peyton deals with Julian's arrival -- and flashbacks show us just what we up between the two of them during the lost years in L.A. Owen tries to win back Brooke, Nate encounters an old enemy on the Slamball court, and Haley suffers a massive lapse of judgment when it comes to Jamie's babysitting arrangements. What was she thinking? Plus, the Mouth storyline continued to torment us. Make it stop!

Find out what had Jackie waxing wroth, what prompted us to equate Mia with Dan, and why I'm predicitng a Jackie/Sarah cage match before too long. All that and a whole bunch of other impassioned opinions are waiting!

One Tree Hill: Digging up the Past

Both Peyton and Lucas had to relive some troubling episodes from their past this week, but for very different reasons. Julian's behind all of it, though. Meanwhile, Brooke and Nathan made some big decisions, Dan resurfaced, Sam caused trouble (but nothing like last week), and we wished Haley had more of a storyline!

What's up with Peyton: She hasn't told Lucas that she and Julian have a history. Just how much history do they have? Well, we're about to find out. They met in LA right after she turned down Lucas's original proposal, and they were in love and living together at one point. However, the relationship went south when Julian felt like he was competing with Lucas's book, and he left her for it.

What's up with Nathan: He's prepping for his semifinal Slamball game -- it's against a tough rival, Jerome, who claims he's going to put Nathan back into a wheelchair.

What's up with Lucas: Julian wants him to write the scene where Dan kills Keith, but he really doesn't want to. He's trying to figure out if Dan ever had a soul. So first he goes to Nathan to reminisce, and Nathan tells him that yes, Dan once had a soul -- but he definitely doesn't have one now.

What's up with Brooke: Owen is trying to romance her with daily gifts (which she accepts) and naked surprises in her backseat (which oddly, she rejects). We get why she might have been a little annoyed, but to make the poor guy figure out his own way home -- sans clothes? Seems a little harsh to us. Meanwhile, Brooke's thinking up appropriate punishments for Sam and brainstorming new ways to work with Peyton's damaged wedding dress.

Exclusive: One Tree Hill's Hilarie Burton on Racy Roles and Her Local Ghosts

We love talking to One Tree Hill's Hilarie Burton -- she's always such a blast! Our own Jason C. chats with Hilarie about her big movie role and the part she's not so sure she wants her parents to see, plus gives up an update on the spectral phenomena that seem to follow her (and now someone else from the cast!) Plus check out how she tries to prove that she is, in fact getting older, and stay tuned for a personal message from Hilarie at the very end!

One Tree Hill Podcast: "Our Life Is Not A Movie Or Maybe"

Listen Now

Another episode of One Tree Hill, another round of passionate debate! What can we say -- this show gives us plenty to talk about!

I've got your hair, I've got your book, and I'm coming for your girl!

Lucas gets a surprising offer from a movie producer -- he wants to make Ravens into a film! News spreads fast, and everyone has (mostly inappropriate) suggestions for who should play their parts in the movie. Lucas makes a show of debating whether to take the deal, but of course he signs -- and of course the producer is up to no good! He knows Peyton from her time in L.A., and it looks like he has nefarious motives. Meanwhile, Nathan and Haley are dealing with his new Slamball career, Sam acts out in the worst possible way, Owen grovels to Brooke, and Jamie trusts everyone. Oh, yeah, and the Mouth plot continues to annoy. Sigh.

But that's just the start -- we have plenty more to talk about! Find out why I got bleeped (and I can't believe it took more than 100 podcasts before one of us slipped up!), what prompted Mia to swear off children, and what made Jackie reconsider Jamie's character recommendation. All that a a whole lot more!

One Tree Hill: Exciting New Developments!

You must pay the rent! I can't pay the rent!
There's never a dull moment in Tree Hill! This week, the gang faced off with people from their past with mixed results. We adored most of the storylines and the hilarious lines this week -- the writers and actors were having fun with this one!

Besides the fun pace and new developments, we loved all the scenes that paired characters who don't usually get much screentime together. Brooke and Lucas! Nathan and Owen! Nathan and Mouth! Haley, Brooke, and Millie! And that good old-fashioned Lucas/Haley scene reminded us of Season One.

Let's start with Nathan and Haley. Haley's doing her best to be a supportive wife while Nathan slams his way through Slamball with the bruises to prove it. She talks to Lucas about her worries, and Lucas assures her everything's going to be okay. With Jamie out of the house sleeping over at Aunt Brooke's (more on that in a minute!), Haley and Nathan have an evening alone to talk and get passionate. In one of the cutest scenes of the night, Haley tinkers with the piano while Nathan grimaces, and she can't figure out why. Nathan tells her this is what it's like when she makes faces while he plays. Aww! The Scotts end the night with a sensual massage for Nathan from Haley.

Lucas and Peyton each have their hands full with unexpected visitors. Peyton reunites with her brother at a Marines ceremony, and they reminisce about Psycho Derek and chat about Mick. But it's Lucas who has the more interesting visitor. An agent, Julian, shows up on Lucas's porch wanting to meet about turning the first book into a movie. He assures Lucas he's a good guy and really wants to work with him to make it a success. Lucas is a little skeptical, but he checks out Julian's references and everything looks good, so he agrees to meet him for a drink.

One Tree Hill Podcast: "Messin' With The Kid"

Listen Now

The gloves come off when we talk about this week's episode of One Tree Hill! Just about everyone on the show is experiencing a little interpersonal turmoil: Jamie gets bullied at school, Haley encounters a Mean Mom, Brooke butts heads with Sam (and Owen!), and Peyton and Lucas discover that moving in together isn't easy. The only one not having a difficult time is Mouth -- unless you count being showered with money and encountering a randy ex girlfriend as "difficult."

Haley sings the What's Sam Still Doing Here Blues

Jackie, Mia and I can agree on a few things, but we spend much more time airing our differences. We agreed we can always count on Dan for some things, and we all loved seeing Haley pick up her guitar again, but after that? All bets are off! Find out why Mia thinks she's going to get hate mail, and discover what would make her go to Tree Hill to kick some butts. Discover what had Jackie foaming at the mouth (subtle hint, there) and what plotline she loved that Mia and I could do without. Hear me admit something I never thought I'd say, and get the scoop on what would make me throw punches.

Plus, we debate the Brucas situation, give Sam a little tough love, and discuss what I'm insisting is a direct shout-out. (Hey, a girl can dream, right?)

One Tree Hill: "Messin' With The Kid"

One Tree Hill lightened up this week after some dark storylines, and we're all for some happier moments. We loved this episode and the new plot developments -- did you? It was fun to see Haley singing for the pure enjoyment of it, Jamie and Nathan challenging a bully in an unexpected way, and Lucas and Peyton adjusting to each other by splitting the house in two. Plus, we got some good Brooke/Sam bonding moments, Owen seems to be back for good, and Mouth's juggling a new job and the attention of two women (!).

Let's backtrack. Lucas and Peyton are getting used to living together -- it's not always easy. Peyton's worried that they don't know each other as well as they should. Then they're bickering about everything from her music taste to which bedroom to sleep in. Peyton wonders why they can't sleep in the master bedroom, but Lucas is squicked out -- that was Karen's room! She insists they give it a go, and then she laughs at Lucas when he has a little problem in the bedroom. Poor guy -- we have to say we felt bad for him in that scene. Their spat goes to extremes when they tape the house in half and Peyton tries to tempt Lucas into breaking their rules by being sexy. He still won't give in! They finally call a truce, and just in time; Lucas needs the bathroom and Peyton needs some food. Cute scenes all around -- we liked seeing their relationship this way.

While walking by the water, Haley encounters a young guitarist who knows her music and starts playing "When The Stars Go Blue." She asks Haley when her new music will come out, and Haley's a little flustered -- she's had so much going on, she hasn't really had the chance to think about music. But after some soul-searching with Brooke and then Nathan, Hales realizes that she does have room for music in her life again. She doesn't care about being in the studio or going on tour, though -- she just wants to enjoy music for its own sake. So she picks up a guitar and joins the girl by the water for a pretty amazing duet.

One Tree Hill Podcast: "Choosing My Own Way of Life"

Listen Now

One Tree Hill goes back to focusing on relationships and (relatively) realistic human interactions, but Mia and I were still undecided on this episode. While we loved Millie (of course!), we can't say the same for Sam, or even Lucas. And don't get us started on Mouth...

he's baaaaa-aaaaack!

Mia and I discuss the plots that work (Brooke and Millie, Brooke and Peyton, Jamie's cuteness, Dan exposing the truth about vegetables) and the ones that don't do it for us (Is it an insult to ask Nate to play Slamball? Is Brooke financially secure enough to take in a surly teen? Is Omaha really that starved for entertainment?) Plus, find out what makes Mia invoke Tim Gunn, hear my surprising admission, and find out what storyline we almost forgot about entirely.

One Tree Hill: Book Tours, True Friends and Mighty Mouth

The Cast of One Tree Hill but where's Millie? We love her!
One Tree Hill was all over the map this week -- literally, in same cases. We had confessions, true expressions of friendship, homeless teens, extreme sports, lovelorn brother-killers, self-pitying biological dads, an imploding book tour, and inexplicable stardom. All that drama and not a single psycho nanny in evidence. See? It can be done!

What we loved:
The whole Brooke storyline made us incredibly happy. First off, there's Millicent, who shows (again) just why we love her. For years, Brooke has been coming up with ideas of things she's like to do. For just as long, Victoria has been shooting them down as useless or stupid or impossible. Millicent saved them up and gave Brooke the list. 'While [Victoria] was telling me I couldn't do these things..." Brooke stammers out. "I was writing them down so someday you could," Millicent continues. "Welcome to someday, Brooke Davis." That's fantastic, and utterly Millie.

Then there's Peyton, who sees Brooke's scary mirror or loathing and asks what's going on. Brooke finally told Peyton that she was attacked, and Peyton reacted perfectly. She tells Brooke that she'll always be there for her, no matter what. What's more, Peyton makes over Brooke's mirror, erasing words like "pain" and "vengeance" and replacing them with "Kind," "Worthy," "Beautiful," "Creative" and "Strong." "I love you, B. Davis," she writes at the bottom. It's exactly what Brooke needed.

One Tree Hill Podcast: "You Dug Your Grave, Now Lie In It"

Listen Now

One Tree Hill was all over the place this week -- just like the characters, who were mostly all living in their own world. But Jackie, Mia and I are together on our disappointment with the episode. But hey -- at least Nanny Carrie is finally gone for good! (We hope.)

Peyton, to Brooke:

Nanny Carrie puts her fiendish plan (which, Dan is quick to remind us, sucks) into action and lures Haley and Jamie to her house of horrors. Fortunately, Deb and Dan are there to help out, because Nathan is checking out a basketball team far away, Lucas is off dealing with book stuff in New York, Peyton is worrying about her maybe-dad, and Brooke is confronting her feelings with the help of her shrink. Oh, and Millie's back ... but where's Mouth?

Find out what we really think about the Nanny Carrie storyline (in case you couldn't guess), hear our ideas for Brooke's new venture (hint -- it showed up on America's Next Top Model last season!), hear the evidence we discover that proves Peyton's paternity, and findout why Lucas is really skipping Chicago on the book tour.
